Interview w/ Faith Potts

Greetings Friends!

Today I get to do an interview with Miss Faith (my review of her book Freedom will be posted tomorrow) and I am sooo excited!! My first interview ever. This is apart of the 13 Reasons Why blog tour, so if your not aware of that I recommend checking out all the posts!

My questions are in bold and Faith’s reply’s are in italics.

Question #1 ~ What Emotion Do You Most Desire Your Readers To Feel While Reading Freedom? Angered by all the pain and suffering in this world, but empowered to do whatever we can to share Christ’s love in the midst of darkness. I also hope readers are comforted by the assurance that they’re loved, that their life has purpose and meaning, and that they’re never alone.

Question #2 ~ What Emotions Did You Deal With While Writing Freedom? Confusion–why me? Why did God give me this story? Heartache–my heart cries for those who think suicide is the only way out. Anger–how I have lived nearly two decades without ever hearing much about suicide. Hope–I know god can use this story to play a role in someone else’s life story.

Question #3 ~ What Was Your Favorite Element To Write About During Freedom (plot, theme, characters, detail, setting, etc.)? My favorite part(s) of writing Freedom was the characters, for sure. Ranging from the point-of-view characters to the side characters who only have a scene or two. Figuring out the complexities of each one, that makes up the cast of characters was really interesting. And of course the sarcasm and snarky banter sprinkled through the book was pretty awesome. ;D

Question #4 ~ What Do You Hope Freedom Does For People (aka for what purpose did you write Freedom)? I hope Freedom encourages someone. I hope someone is able to see their own struggles through the story, and grow and heal from the experience. I hope awareness can be spread of the dark, scary realities of suicide. It’s my prayer someone can find hope during their own season of hurt, through this story.

Question #5 ~ Why Did You Choose To Approach The Difficult Subject Of Suicide In Freedom? When I realize how often suicide gets overlooked, avoided, handled inappropriately, or not given sufficient attention, I knew I wanted to do what I could to bring attention to it. upon discovering the frequent tragedy of veteran suicide, I knew that was the specific avenue God was calling me toward.

Question #6 ~ Why Did You Begin Writing In The First Place? When I first began writing, it was to escape. My family was going through a tough time that summer/fall, and I just needed something else to devote my time and attention to. Writing is still, often times, my escape.

Wow. I feel like I’ve always known you. Thanks for sharing Faith. I appreciate this experience.

Faith’s Bio ~ Saved by God’s grace, Faith Potts is a teenage writer and homeschool graduate, living with her family and beloved yellow labs in the North Carolina mountains. When she’s not weaving stories, consuming large amounts of coffee, reading stacks of books, or studying American Sign Language, she can be found laughing harder than is healthy, daydreaming, and–of course–blowing dandelions.
