Hey everyone!! Today I get to hang out with another super cool author Kaitlyn.*cheering* This interview is for the 13 Reasons Why blog tour . . . I did a Reason To Live (R2L), already along with some things for Faith Potts. But anyways, if you are unaware of the reason behind this blog tour then let me give you some insight.
There was a Netflix TV series 13 Reasons Why centered around a girl’s suicide. There is plenty of debate on whether it supports suicide or merely raises awareness, but we know that this show has prompted others to take their own lives. Every episode gives a reason for the girl’s suicide, 13 reasons, 13 episodes. Because Faith Potts and Kaitlyn Krispense’s books both deal with suicide they decided to name their tour the 13 Reasons Why, however, instead of giving reasons to die we’re giving reasons to live (R2L). Choose to live! We are loved!! Live because you’re loved!
Same as with Faith my questions are in bold and Kaitlyn’s response is in italics!
Super happy to have you come visit my blog, Kaitlyn!! Question #1 ~ What Emotion Do You Most Desire Your Readers To Feel While reading Beloved? I’m honestly not quite sure how to answer this, haha! I wrote this story to spread God’s love. I hope my readers feel . . . hope. Loved. Safe. Do these count as emotions? XD
Yes, they most certainly do! Question #2 ~ What Emotions Did You Deal With While Writing Beloved? Depression, actually. I wrote Beloved as much for myself as I did for my readers. At some point, everyone has those times where it seems like no one cares. And though I knew that I was loved, I needed to remind myself and put my focus in the right place.
I can relate to that. Question #3 ~ What Was Your Favorite Element To Write About During Beloved (plot, theme, characters, setting, etc.)? Characters, most definitely. I adored writing all the family relationships, the banter, the deep conversations, all of it!
Questions #4 ~ What Do You Hope Beloved Does For People? I guess I kinda answered this in the first question, didn’t I? #oops I wrote Beloved to show people that even when it doesn’t seem like it, even when you can’t feel it . . . you are loved. Beyond measure. God sent his Son to die for you. All because He loves you. Once you accept this love, you are His daughter (or son)–and that makes you priceless.
I agree!! God’s love is the best thing to live for! Question #5 ~ Why Did You Choose To Approach The Difficult Subject Of Suicide in Beloved? It just kinda . . . happened? Honestly I didn’t even think twice about it. The plot took off, and I was just holding on for dear life! I saw a picture on Pinterest (yes, I’m one of those authors who spends wayyyy too much time on Pinterest and other distractions) of a limp girl being carried out of water, and that inspired the suicide aspect. I think. It’s been over two years since I wrote the book, so it’s kinda hard to remember the details, haha! =)
^.^ I totally understand what you mean! Question #6 ~ Why Did You Begin Writing In The First place? I’ve loved reading ever since I learned how. I remember writing down stories probably no longer than 200 words when I was younger, but never really got into it until I wrote fan-fiction for my favorite books. Then I realized that writing was actually doable, and that I loved it!
Well, thanks for joining me here today Kaitlyn! I appreciated it and I’m certain others did too! I’m looking forward to your next books!
Here’s some quotes from Beloved!!
Welp, there’s a picture of Miss Kaitlyn! She’s as fun to chat with as she seems. =) Here’s her bio!
Kaitlyn is a farmer’s daughter that loves the Lord, her family, and her books. Psalm 46:10 gives her inspiration, her brothers make her laugh, and there’s nothing quite like the excitement of opening an unread book for the first time. Writing takes up a bunch of her time, whether actual writing takes place or writer’s block, in which case she’s probably browsing Pinterest.
Also, there’s a giveaway going on somewhere in either Kaitlyn’s or Faith’s blog! Look it up (I can’t seem to connect the link . . . :P) because there’s some amazing stuff they’re giving away!! Including signed paperbacks of both Freedom and Beloved! Whoa! *heart eyes*
